Herodotus was an ancient Greek historian, geographer and ethnologist and lived in the fifth century BC (c. 484–c. 425 BC).
 He is often referred to as "The Father of History". His surviving works include nine books and deal with the rise of the
 Persian Empire in the late 6th century BC. and the Persian wars in the early 5th century BC. The work contains numerous
 references to a wide variety of everyday customs and religious rites, but also reflections on political power
 constellations and constitutional issues of the time.
